What is a commercial meat slicer?
Electric meat slicers are widely used in professional kitchens due to their ability to cut thin, perfectly straight slices of various foods. Unlike manual cutting, which is challenging, unsafe and time-consuming, these machines feature a sharp, round blade that rotates at high speed.
They can effortlessly cut through soft or tough meats, resulting in fine slices of salami, ham, sausage, carpaccio and other meat products or cold cuts. The thickness of the cut can also be adjusted.
These meat slicers can also be used to cut cheese, bread and vegetables with equal precision. This versatility makes them a valuable kitchen tool and a worthy investment for any catering establishment.

What should you consider when buying a meat slicer?
When selecting an electric meat slicer, the blade size is a crucial factor to consider. Each model displays the diameter of the blade, such as 22cm, 25cm, or 30cm. A larger blade allows for the cutting of larger pieces. Start by determining the specific foods you intend to slice and the desired size of the cuts. Additionally, take into account the type of blade required. For cutting bread, a serrated blade is necessary, while a Teflon blade is recommended for cutting cheese.
How do you clean a meat slicer?
It's essential to thoroughly clean and disinfect an electric meat slicer after each use. During the cutting process, food residue, especially meat, can easily harbor bacteria. Clean the machine after each use so that you always have the machine ready to cut other foods.
Start by removing any larger food residue. The cutting board can be detached and washed in hot water with detergent. Do the same for the knife, which can also be removed. The rest of the construction can be cleaned with a wet sponge and detergent.
For a hygienic result, you can also use lemon water or a vinegar and salt solution in warm water. Then rinse with water and allow to dry completely before reassembling the parts.
